Hey.

I'm Zach Billings

My body of work consists primarily of architectural documentation and visualization, but I have often tried to venture into other areas of design to build my knowledge and skillset.

I was born and raised in the Ozarks. While this left much to be desired for architectural inspiration, the natural beauty of the area was easy to draw from at a young age to guide an early worldview. The architecture worth drawing from were the simple, honest structures placed on the landscape in the form of barns, shacks, and old hand-built homes. This simple and honest architecture was the truest thing I could draw knowledgeable creativity from at my beginnings.
I had the opportunity to be immersed in a more urban experience at University of Missouri - Kansas City. Tackling projects within an environment I was not familiar with, setting the foundations to be an adaptable designer. I discovered the importance of understanding urban fabric as an interconnected environment in which every part reacts to the other.
Throughout my studies I took every opportunity to abandon comfort, test self-resilience and adaptability, and explore new environments. A study abroad in Italy allowed for visits to various cities throughout Europe, as well as experiencing the Venice Biennale. Immediately following was an internship in Austin, Texas in a firm with a swiftly growing presence in their local community. Finally, being fortunate enough to be part of Kansas State's 'Regnier Studio' sponsored by Larry Scarpa (Brooks + Scarpa) based in Los Angleles, learning prefab and design+build methods of construction.

Moving forward, I know that I find interest in how to address the future of cities. Exponential growth, overcrowding, potential sprawl, the missing middle, ignorance towards environmental hard. These are a few of the issues I hope to begin finding some answers towards, and opening new questions to each.
